SAF for Batch Import and Special Characters

Hello,

We are on DSpace 5.10.  We have had great success with batch importing SAF files.  Recently, we found a snag. If the test contains special characters (like the alpha a), DSpace converts this to a -.  We've tried using UTF8 csv files, but the SAF builder doesn't build the batch.  

Do you have any suggestions for getting the SAF builder to work with the UTF8 csv?  The batch builder runs but does not use the pdfs as a part of the build.  With a non-UTF csv, the SAF builder uses the pdfs in the build just fine.
