Dspace 8 installation

Hello everyone, 

I am attempting to install Dspace 8 on Ubuntu 24.04 which is behind a kemp load balancer. I am wondering if I need to have port 8983 open on the kemp in order for Solr to work properly. I have installed the backend on a local machine and can see Solr admin and the HAL browser without any issue but now I am trying to do the same on a server provisioned by IT. I see a number of error messages related to the connection being refused in the Tomcat logs and it is preventing the webapp from starting. This following is an excerpt from localhost.log:

I am not clear on everything that is happening here and I am hoping that someone can provide some guidance. Initially I thought it was my use of server.xml in /conf/Catalina/localhost so I tried the other method of copying /webapps/ with the same result so that got me thinking about my actual setup.

You need to access your solr server via the internal URL or the IP address (eventually localhost if it is installed on the same server than the REST API) not via the public URL

https://scholworks.durhamcollege.net:8983/solr/search 

Change the solr.server property in your dspace.cfg/local.cfg

The default is probably what you need.

solr.server = http://localhost:8983/solr
