Hello,

There are a few older items in our collection for which the edit button does not appear for Admins when we want to view the policies on attached files:

Example:
EditButtonDoesNotAppear_031726.PNG
Note to the right of the item, we see the 'Create new version' button, but not the edit button ordinarily present to its right.

Is there any reason why this would occur for Admins who can edit every other item in the collection?  If I want to change the policies on the item, would I need to do that directly from the database?  Any recommendations on how to do that?

Thanks,
Carolyn.

Hello Carolyn,

First, there are a few things I would suggest checking that could potentially cause differences in authorization:
  • Is there a chance these specific items are mapped from other collections?  In that case they would keep authorizations from the original collection.
  • Are the affected administrator accounts a part of any custom authorization groups?
  • This seems unlikely, but are the admins able to access the Edit page by manually adding `/edit` to the URL? In case of some UI-only error with the button.
Second, does this behavior happen only for collection-level administrators of a specific collection, or also for community-level and/or site-wide administrators?  If you are able to get to Edit Item from a site-wide admin account, you should be able to view the item-level policies by going to Status -> Authorizations (relevant documentation).

Best,
Lia

Dear Lia,

Shockingly, yes, I can access the item by adding /edit to its URL.  Why on earth, I wonder, would the UI be glitching specifically for these two items?  It's a site-wide admin (me) having issues with these buttons.

As to the Authorization policies, they're set to Read-Anonymnous-(start date)2022-08-27, so there's no reason why they should be hidden.  So weird.  Any ideas?

Thanks,
Carolyn.
