Good morning colleagues.

Please help me understand why is my search returns 0 search results when I search for a title with square brackets [] in it e.g. Bis(μ-N,N-diallyldithiocarbamato)bis[(N,N-diallyldithiocarbamato)cadmium]? But when I remove the square brackets and run the search again, I get the results.

Best regards,

Brackets and some other characters are interpreted as part of Solr query syntax.

Which DSpace version are you using? This might already be fixed in 6.3.

If you want to test it on 5.x, it might be possible to charry-pick
just this one change.

https://patch-diff.githubusercontent.com/raw/DSpace/DSpace/pull/2038.patch

It applies cleanly, so it might work there, too. If you test it, make
sure to add a comment to Jira or GitHub and we might still backport it
to 5.x.

@helix84 -

I looked at the jira you linked in response to this issue, https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-3507, but cannot tell if it was actually resolved and included in 6.3 or not.

We are running 6.3 and based on limited testing it appears that this issue WAS resolved.  Can you confirm or tell me how I can confirm?

If I search for information on SOLR syntax in dSpace 6.x documentation, where should I look?  So far I have not been able to find that information.

Thank you,
Kelley Canon
