Line 8 of this file (google-analytics.cfg) says "# TODO: UNSUPPORTED in DSpace 7.0".

Is it supported in releases after 7.0; specifically, in 7.6.1?

We want to enable the tracking of bitstream downloads, now that thumbnails are no longer included. But I won't bother overriding these values in local.cfg if it makes no difference.

Thanks!

Hi Amy,

Google Analytics tracking is supported in DSpace 7.  That's configured via the settings in dspace.cfg here: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/dspace-7_x/dspace/config/dspace.cfg#L1491-L1524

The "google-analytics.cfg" is only used for the (older XMLUI) feature which allowed sites to display Google Analytics statistical reports **inside the DSpace UI itself**.  That feature is  NOT supported in DSpace 7.  It is described in more detail here:
https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/DSpace+Google+Analytics+Statistics#DSpaceGoogleAnalyticsStatistics-GoogleAnalyticsReportsinDSpaceUI

So, the simple answer is Google Analytics is supported, but you cannot display GA reports in the DSpace UI.  Instead you need to login to your GA account to see (or generate) any reports.
