DS-1742 restrict Request Item by document type (metadata value)

I wonder if any of you have implemented DS-1742 - restrict Request Item by document type (metadata value)? I have implemented a request copy for metadata only items. Our use case is that we can't upload the publisher version because of copyright issues and we don't have the preprints or post-prints of these publications. We have the publisher's version though and we send it through email by using this: https://ardamis.com/2009/06/26/protecting-multiple-downloads-using-unique-urls/ so we don't have to attach the files and we can set an expiration date and number of downloads. I would like to ask if any of you have implemented a request copy for metadata only items? I'm not satisfied with my version and I find it hard to migrate across different versions (eg 5x to 6x). My version runs on 5x. During the last webinar done by Atmire (lowering thresholds to access DSpace content - Request a Copy), Bram mentioned that they have implemented request copy for metadata only items to one of their clients. I would like to ask if the code for that is available in Github?
