Authority control for grouping publications

Hello everyone,

I already have active researcher profiles and entities, and now I'm experimenting with authority control for the dc.contributor.author field.
The main goal is to group the works of authors who appear with name variations in their publications archived in the repository.
However, I can't understand how authority control could help with this. It seems the only way to achieve this is by adding relationships between the Publication and Person entities. Am I missing something? Can the authority key be used in some way to group search results?
