Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all well! I'm reaching out to ask if anyone would be willing to share their insight about Symplectic Elements integrations with DSpace 7. If anyone has successfully integrated the DSpace feed in Elements with their D7 instance I would love to hear from you.

We have encountered significant errors and roadblocks when Elements attempts to harvest withdrawn and embargoed items in D7. What's unique about this particular setup, is that this DSpace instance has only provided a non-administrative account to the Elements system therefore, when it attempts to access item endpoints for embargoed and withdrawn items it's hitting HTTP 403s.

If anyone has any insight about an Elements and DSpace integration please drop us a line at  info[at]scholaris.ca  (our email gets erased so writing it out!) . We would love to hear from you! Thank you!

Kind Regards,
~Rachel

Dear Rachel,

As far as I'm aware, for deposits the symplectic user you configure in DSpace needs to be a full Administrator as it uses a number of Administrator only API endpoints. Aside from the issues you raise you will also likely experience issues with workflow items if you try and constrain the symplectic user to a lesser role (eg collection adminstrator).

The RT2 documentation (https://support.symplectic.co.uk/support/solutions/articles/6000166645-repository-tools-2-configuring-dspace) does imply that for harvest only the user only needs to be able to access private items, although they aren't clear what they mean by 'private' - it might be worth raising a support ticket to clarify if this includes embargoed items (bitstreams and metadata), withdrawn items or those made non-discoverable through the DSpace UI.

Kind regards,

Peter
