I am using DSpace 7.2, with the Mirador viewer and Cantaloupe. I am unable to get my first attempts to use JP2 (jpeg2000) to view anywhere. When uploading as a bitstream, DSpace complains "unknown format". I have produced these jp2 images from png using imagemagick. The resulting images view well using Irfanview. I also downloaded a sample JP2 file and got the same results.
Isn't JP2 enabled by default? How/where do I check? Suggestions for troubleshooting?
C.

Isn't JP2 defined in Dspace's metadata registry? If I were to define that, could I them add Jpeg2000 images as bitstreams and have them served by Cantaloupe?

Hi Chris,

It appears that JP2 is not in our default file format registry: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/main/dspace/config/registries/bitstream-formats.xml

That said, you can easily add it (or any missing file format you find) to your site by logging in as an Admin and going to "Registries" -> "Formats".  From that page you can add new formats as needed.

By default, DSpace only comes with a small set of pre-configured formats.  That said, as you noticed it will **accept** any file you give it.  But, if it doesn't know the file format yet, it just says it's "Unknown".

(I cannot answer your question about whether adding this JP2 format will cause Cantaloupe to work with it.  It might, but I admit I'm still not an expert on Cantaloupe & the new IIIF features -- so, perhaps someone else on this list will know the answer.)

Tim
