Retrieving a list of items by an Author and result set in XML or JSON

I am wondering if there is a way of retrieving a list of items from DSpace by a given Author using an AuthorID and the result set is provided in either XML or JSON. The list could be similar to the one produced by the Browse Type by Author with AuthorID as a filter.
