DSpace 7.4 repository -- DOI submission to CrossRef

I am looking for the best practices in DOI workflows, preferably through [semi]-automated methods. We are using DSpace 7.4 and need to assign DOIs and register them with CrossRef.  Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.
