Which suitable and stable version to update DSpace

Dear Members,

Currently, what is the most suitable and stable version to update DSpace? Our software is at version 6.4 and we would like to update to the most stable and up-to-date version possible.

Hi,

While DSpace 6.4 is the latest version of the 6.x platform, DSpace 7.3 is the latest version available of DSpace (with 7.4 arriving in October).  If/when you can do so, I'd recommend upgrading to DSpace 7.x, as it is the most secure, stable, and up-to-date version of DSpace.  Additionally, the 6.x platform will reach its "end of life" as of July 2023.

The only potential downsides to 7.x are...

• The 7.x releases do not yet include all the features of 6.x. We are working on this, but you can see a list of 6.x features not yet​ in 7.x listed at https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSPACE/DSpace+Release+7.0+Status#DSpaceRelease7.0Status-Whatfeaturesarecominginalater7.xrelease?7.x  That said, every 7.x release adds more features ported from 6.x.

• You must migrate to the new User Interface.  This can make it a more complex upgrade, especially if your existing user interface is highly customized.  However, the new User Interface provides a more modern look & feel and is easier to customize with just HTML and CSS/SCSS knowledge.
