Dear team,

I would like to know if it is possible to set up "subscription" in a collection in DSpace 7. I have checked the official Lyrasis documentation for this version but so far I can't find any information. As far as I have been able to validate is that in previous versions the option to subscribe to a collection comes by default.

Thank you for your answers.

Hi,

This feature has not been created for DSpace 7.  It's listed as #6 under "Tier 3: Medium Priority" here: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSPACE/DSpace+Release+7.0+Status#DSpaceRelease7.0Status-Tier3:MediumPriority  So, it's on our roadmap for 7.x, but it's not yet scheduled for a release (and it'd likely occur after Tier 1 and Tier 2 features are completed).

That said, we always welcome & accept community contributions.  So, if your institution is interested in (re-)creating this feature in DSpace 7, please get in touch. You also may be able to contract with one of our service providers to build this immediately & give it back to DSpace.  In either of those scenarios, when code is donated, we will immediately review it and attempt to ensure it is included in the next release of DSpace 7.

I would point out that only the user interface is missing. The
back-end still has all of the subscription code in place, and I
believe that an instance which is upgraded to 7 from a previous
release will continue to send out notices for existing subscriptions.
There's just no convenient way, at present, to create *new*
subscriptions. If the need is urgent, you could add rows to the
'subscription' database table manually.

To remedy this will require (1) a new REST endpoint for managing
subscriptions, and (2) small modifications to the UI for using it.

I’d love to see RSS feeds implemented – I don’t think they are yet but please correct me if I am wrong! Since some email clients can “subscribe” to feeds this might be an easy solution and provide both methods of new content notifications.

Cheers,

Gail

This feature is available in DSpace-CRIS 7 with some enhancements respect to the basic feature that was available in DSpace.
For instance, It is possible to subscribe any objects, including Person Item to receive update about new content linked to this item or subscribe statistics notification to receive email notice about content usage.

The source code can be found in the 4Science github repositories, the REST contract is available here

the technical documentation contains details about the feature and screenshot (pp 64-)

As always at 4Science we welcome new DSpace-CRIS users, developers interested in backporting this to the plain dspace and we are available for professional support in doing that on behalf of an institution.
