Filter-media memory usage keeps increasing infinitely

I'm experiencing a problem with the thumbmail generation procedure. I noticed that "dspace filter-media" uses a lot of memory, and after completion the JAVA garbage collection is not done. Objects are kept in memory for many hours until the OS is rebooted, as shown in the figure below.
