Hi Ronald,

You didn't mention what version of DSpace you are using (and if it's 6.x or below, which User Interface you are using).  The answer here depends on which version of DSpace you are using.

You also didn't mention whether you are receiving an error from DSpace itself, or what the problem is that you are seeing.  Uploads obviously can be impacted by not only DSpace, but also your internet speed/connection, and even firewalls or similar.

If you are receiving an error from the User Interface, I'd recommend looking at our troubleshooting guide for information about finding the underlying error in logs (as sometimes that underlying error can provide more information on the root cause): https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSPACE/Troubleshoot+an+error

Please share this information on the mailing list, and hopefully someone can provide more specific help once we know what version of DSpace you are using, and what errors you may be seeing.

Tim

Hi

Specifically, the problem is, when I want to view a video larger than 5Mb, it is downloaded, but if it is smaller, it is played. I need to watch the videos all the time, I don't want to download them.

thanks

Hi Ronald,

The answer is different based on which version of DSpace you are using.

DSpace 6 (and below) doesn't support streaming a video. It will only allow you to download them.  In some browsers, the browser itself might stream smaller videos during the download process.  But, DSpace doesn't support video streaming.

In DSpace 7, basic video streaming can be enabled by enabling the "mediaViewer" setting. See https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/User+Interface+Configuration#UserInterfaceConfiguration-MediaViewerSettings

Hopefully, that helps. If you have further questions let us know on this list.

Hello Tim
The version is 6.3, what I do is upload videos and then be able to have a gallery to view them. when I upload videos smaller than 5Mb they play without problem, when they are larger they don't play but are downloaded automatically. I need to be able to view all the videos as if they were all the same size.

Thanks

Hi Ronald,

Unfortunately, this feature is not available in DSpace 6.3.  As I noted, DSpace 6 (and below) do not support any video streaming.  So, I'm guessing that what you are seeing is that your personal web browser may be "streaming" small files of 5MB or less.  For *all files*, DSpace 6 will only let you download them....it doesn't have any out-of-the-box streaming.

As I noted, DSpace 7 does support video streaming (of all size files).  So if that's the feature you are looking for, your best option would be to look at an upgrade to DSpace 7 sometime in the future.

Tim
