Hello everyone!

I hope you are doing well,

Anyone can help me regarding Media viewer setting in dspace7.2. How can I configure it?

Does anyone have the media viewer setup in production, that I could take a look at?

I've added the necessary entries to the frontend config and restarted.  I know we have a few items with video content, but I don't see any difference; the items just have the same download links they always did.  Is there additional backend config I've missed?  Or does this feature maybe just do something different than what I think it does.

Hi Darryl,

Here’s my favourite item from our 7 with media viewer. Only just gone live.

Thanks Craig, that helped a lot actually.

I did a bit more teasing, and the media viewer appears to work differently than I expected.  The highest ranked bitstream in the ORGINAL bundle gets the thumbnail spot in the upper left corner of the page (assuming a relatively standard DSpace theme).  If that first bitstream is a video, the media player will appear in that thumbnail spot.  None of the other bitstreams get any special treatment, no matter what their mime type is.

I was hoping that perhaps the download links for each bitstream would be replaced with some sort of media viewer links.  With our collection, each item generally has a primary document (PDF) and supplemental materials (video files, images, data files etc) and that PDF is almost always the first bitstream.  Which seems to be why I though the media viewer wasn't working.

Here's a couple of ETDs from our current 6.x site.  I was hoping 7.x would turn those left links into cool video player links:

That's something we're starting to work through as well. I think it would be worth logging as an enhancement - I still l have a fair bit to work through in understanding the changes from 5.8 to 7 before I'd be in a position to do it.
Cheers Craig

After some additional testing, I realized my last message was not quite correct.

In our test DSpace 7.5 instance, as long as one of the video files is the first bitstream, the media player will appear and all video bitstreams will be placed into a playlist.  So DSpace 7.x does in fact do pretty much what I wanted!  We just need to remember to reorder the bitstreams to make it work.

Our test server is still on an internal network, so I can't provide a link, but here's a screenshot:
