In-Browser Viewing of Various File Formats in DSpace and Bulk Printing Options

Hi All,

I am exploring options to transition to DSpace for our document management needs. One of my primary concerns is the ability to view various file formats (such as TIFF, JPEG, PDF, and MP4) directly in the browser without requiring users to download them or open them in desktop viewers.

Additionally, I am interested in the possibility of bulk selection of records for printing.

Could anyone provide guidance on:

1. What file formats are natively supported for in-browser viewing in DSpace?
2. How to configure DSpace to enable seamless in-browser viewing for different file types?
3. Are there recommended tools or libraries for embedding viewers for less common file types (e.g., TIFF)?
4. What customization options exist within DSpace for modifying item display templates to accommodate these needs?
5. How can I implement a bulk selection feature for printing records in DSpace?

Hi,

For in-browser viewing, DSpace 7 or 8 has two main options:

* The "Media Viewer" which can support any image/video files (any with MIME Type starting with "image/" or "video/").  See https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/User+Interface+Configuration#UserInterfaceConfiguration-MediaViewerSettings

* The IIIF image viewer, which supports image formats only.  See https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/IIIF+Configuration

All other formats, DSpace will just send directly to your browser when you download the file.  However, depending on your browser's settings, some of these file formats may still open in your browser (if the browser knows how to open them).  For instance, many browser's will open PDF files automatically, but they may only download Word files.

I'm not aware of any way to do "bulk selection of records for printing" in DSpace.  I'm unclear what that references though.
