Hello everyone,

I have what may be a sort of dumb question, but that rarely stops me.

What is the best/fewest-unintended-consequences way to turn off the ability for anyone to submit to an existing DSpace instance? We need to do some maintenance and it's important that the database remain static past a certain date. We do however need all of the basic functions of the repository to remain operational.

I've looked in the documentation, and while I'm sure there are many ways we could intentionally break the submission workflow, we still need everything else to work, so I didn't want to strike blindly.

Anyone know the best way to do this?

Thanks and be well,

Hi Mary,

It depends a bit on what you consider the basic functions of the repository. But if this means: read-only functionality, the way we do it is to temporarily disable one of the, or in some cases, all, authentication methods. The place to do this is authentication.cfg and more info can be found on https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC6x/Authentication+Plugins

If people can't login, they can still look at (public) items, but the can't change the database anymore.

As soon as anyone can login, changes to the database can be made, including changes to EPerson profiles, etc.

Hope this helps!

Bram

Hi Marty,

Just an idea. Why don’t you temporary remove submit privileges to the collections? DSpace will be fully up and running while no one will be able to start submissions.
