Hello DSpace Community,

I am currently working on setting up a DSpace 7.5 instance for a publishing platform where publishers submit publications, and I would like to implement an approval workflow before the submission is published publicly. However, I am having some difficulty configuring this feature, and I would appreciate any guidance or advice on how to achieve this.

What I Have Tried:
  1. Submission Workflow: I have enabled the submission workflow by setting submission.workflow = true and made sure that the review step is enabled by setting workflow.submission.review = true.
Problem:

I am unable to enforce an approval process where the admin must approve a submission before it becomes publicly visible. The publisher is able to submit the content, but it appears immediately on the platform without any admin intervention.

Questions:
  1. What specific configurations or files do I need to modify to ensure the admin approval process is triggered?
  2. Should I be looking for a particular setting or permission to ensure that the submission goes through an admin review step before publication?
  3. How can I configure the workflow steps in DSpace 7.5 to ensure that submissions go through a curation step that requires admin approval before becoming publicly visible?

Any assistance or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards,
Mariam

Hello Mariam,

I'll tell you from my experience;
I think you don't need to activate anything else.

The important thing is that in the workflow it is NOT the collection administrator who is going to mediate the upload. In order for there to be the option for someone to approve or not the submission, you must have at least one of these agents: Reviewers, Editors or Final editors.

In fact, when I start a workflow in which I don't want an item to be published without validation; I start by creating one of those agents according to our needs, and only then do I create the Submitters.

I hope my comment can help you, always according to what I know so far.

Regards,
Jorge
