Request for Guidance on Adding "Guide" and "Type" Filters in DSpace 8 Collection Sidebar and Discover Filters

Dear Team,

I would like to know how we can add "Guide" and "Type" fields to the collection filter sidebar in DSpace 8. Additionally, please advise on how to include these fields in the showDiscoverFilters configuration so they are properly displayed in the collection filter section.

Kindly let me know in which files these changes should be made to reflect them in the sidebar and Discovery Filters.

Hi,

All search filters can be managed via DSpace's Discovery system: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC8x/Discovery

That documentation provides details on where these discovery configurations exist (most are in the discovery.xml file) as well as how to configure the list of facets and filters.  These configurations are not easy, but it is possible to make customizations (You definitely should do this in a development environment first though, till you figure out which settings work best for you).  My best advice is to look closely at existing configurations and find one that is similar to the "Guide" and "Type" settings that you want to add.  Then model your updated configuration on the existing one.

Hi,

The demo site is running DSpace 9.x, which includes these facets by default.  If you want them to display on the homepage, you just need to set the "showDiscoverFilters" to "true" under the Homepage Settings in your frontend configuration.  See docs at: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC8x/User+Interface+Configuration#UserInterfaceConfiguration-HomepageSettings

That setting was first introduced in DSpace 8.0.
