Suggestions for new home WiFi?

Until this morning I’d been decently satisfied with my 3 Google Mesh WiFi units. After a particularly close lightning flash this morning they seem to all be kaput and the documentation for troubleshooting them is laughable.

My CenturyLink modem does wifi, but since it’s in the basement there’s terrible reception in the rest of the house. I liked that the 3 Google WiFi points gave me strong signal everywhere.

Does anyone have suggestions for what to replace it with? I’m not a networking guy so I would prefer something that’s pretty much plug and play. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

What I did was turn off the Wi-Fi on my CenturyLink Router and buy a prosumer Wi-Fi AP I went with A TPLink Omada but people also rave about Unifi

The nice thing is if you have drops throughout the house you can have them all do the same network and even buy weatherproof ones for the back yard, etc.

I'm a fan of Mikrotik network devices, they are cheap, fast and have a ton of advanced features. The UI isn't for the casual user but Brad knows a guy that could help him set it up.

Also TP-Link has a less than stellar security history. Would not use them myself.

I am sceptical of the TP-Link "security issue" thing.  TPLink has been tested extensively in Australia for example and was confirmed clean.  All routers have security issues, but according to the third party testing, they are significantly better than the average.

I've had UniFi for 5 years now and liked it enough to setup my extend family's systems. There is lots of good documentation for them, but it is far from plug and play. 

Google and EERO are supposed to have good plug and play options.
