Hi All,

I have been looking at getting a Kreg Foreman for the space as I know I have interest as do some others. If you are not sure what it is, its just like the kreg pocket hole jig but much more industrial and a stand along unit. No drill to set up or unboxing all the jig pieces.

Product Video

After taxes and such its right under 500 dollars. If you are unfamiliar with how an in for 10 works here is a short summary. If an item is under 500 dollars and 10 people agree to contribute and 1/2 or more of the tool is paid for the space will provide the remaining funds. So for this we need at least 10 people to donate 10 dollars or more and the total funds raised to be 250. If we meet the required amount of people/funds in the thread here we will create a button on the website for you to put your donation in officially/put it in cash in the box at the space. I for one will put in 50 dollars to this, so please respond if your interested to this thread or to me directly with how much you want to put towards it.

Thanks

Jake

I will go $20. I was hoping to get one from a friend, but I think that fell through.
You know we will need a build table next 😃

I'll play the devil's advocate for a moment.

Approximately how much floor space does it need?

I've used the pocket hole equipment more than once and it certainly has its place but, I have to wonder if the set up is all that difficult for others to justify the $500 expenditure needed to replace a little set up training.

What else do we need that $500 could be applied towards?

My wife says that I am definitely in the running to win the whoever-has-the-most-tools-when-you-die-wins contest. So, I'm not against buying a new tool. But again, isn't there something else that we don't already have that we need that would not replace a tool that we have and can perform the same function (i.e.; table top mortiser or a completed CNC or a quality sharpening system)?

Hey Jeff,

So from my point of view, doing different projects, I end up spending at least a few hours a month doing pocket screws. This reduces the time it would take me by about half. So just for me in a year this can save me about 24 hours of time. 4 hours  a month reduced to 2 hours a month x 12 months. So at a rate of 25 an hour that could save me somewhere in the range of about 600 a year. I think there are other also that could benefit the same way at the space. So from my point of view this is a super useful item. Its very little about about the set up training and more about the speed for repetitive drilling.

I do also plan on storing it somewhere that we can bring it out and do a quick mount to the table to use. I don't think it would be a perm feature unless we see it having enough use that makes sense. So im not really worries about floor space.

On the comparison to other items, in reality this doesn't really cost us from getting other things at the moment. Anyone is able to start a in for 10 and it is detailed on our wiki if someone has additional questions on how to start them. If this doesn't get the 10 people who think its worth it that is fine and we wont get one. The support for the item is show by how many people choose to participate/fund. If you don't think it would be useful for you, I would encourage you to not participate. Also in reverse if you have an item you think would benefit the shop and its less then the 500 dollars and you think others would benefit, I would encourage you to start an in for 10 for that project. I would also say this also isn't the only way to get things for the shop and isn't always the right way. There are a number of projects that members have supported and raised money for.

Thanks

Jake

Jake,

Just to be clear, I'm NOT against buying it. I just wanted to get everyone thinking bigger picture equipmentwise.

How do you get much done if you're screwin' around 4 hours per month?
😁

I am not familiar with this item and may come to use it as much as you do.

Put me down for $25.

Yeah totally understand Jeff. Just wanted to explain it in detail as if you have the question I'm sure others have the same. For larger items/bigger picture things we think are really important for the space to have, it usually makes more sense to bring them to the stewards who can bring them to the board and discuss funding/fundraising/grants for the items. In for 10 usually is geared towards smaller items that a small group may want.

Thanks Jake!

Many of us (newer members) now have a better understanding of the process.

Here's a handy little tool.
It's only $13,995.
I'm in for $10.

Oh, wait...🤔
😷

Thanks again Jake.

I follow probably too much national and international news.
One of my sources is Google news. 'Nice variety with available filters.

This certainly must be fate for your Foreman.

So thats 11 with Jason adding to it from talking to him so we have the numbers now. We are funded for 175/240 of the dollars, ill leave it up for a few days here then ill cover the remaining if we don't have anyone else want to participate. To put your money for the space use the Donate button with the subject "Kreg Foreman for woodshop" in the notes to seller. Pictured below on the site.

Jake,

You're already the major donor.

Please post a last-call-for-donations before you cover the last of it so perhaps the rest of us can up ours.

I expect to win the Powerball tomorrow night so, it's all good.  🤑😎

I paid through PayPal moments ago.  I did not see a space to designate the funds for something specific so, I earmarked it for the woodshop fund.

Will that work?

I was just redirected to an Area515 website (for the Kreg Foreman donation) and just happened to see the paragraph at the bottom of the page regarding the work night at the space tomorrow (1/21) night.

Yes, I certainly plan to attend but, had I not stumbled upon the notification I would not be aware of it.

Was this sent out to all? If not, why not? (Rhetorical question)

With X number of members I know that we could accomplish far more with a greater turnout than the usual 5% - 10% of members that care (or are free to attend).

That is a monthly workday set up a long time ago that no one took off the calendar when COVID rolled around. We just haven't been actively "staffing" them lately, even though the digital vestiges remain.

Does this mean that it's not happening?

We had one (when the fire cabinet was delivered) which was obviously during covid.

Jake, were you planning to start on any changes Thursday PM or do any prep?
