Hi Frank,

I am working with data from children and need to use a custom template not listed in your dropdown menu in step T2. I have tried adding the NIH PD template for 4.5-8.5 year olds to the atlas folder but it does not appear in the dropdown menu. Is there a way to choose a custom template like this? The neonatal template is too young and the adult template is too old, so it would help to be able to select my own template.

Many thanks,

Hi Josh,

Adding a new template for QSDR is much more challenging than simply copying a NIfTI template into the atlas folder. A compatible QSDR template needs both the anisotropy map and the isotropic map in the same template space, along with the expected DSI Studio template structure. A T1/T2 anatomical template alone is not sufficient.

At this point, there is also no complete resource that provides these maps across different pediatric ages. This makes it difficult to support age-specific QSDR templates in a general way.

For most analyses, even if the template is not age-matched, the results should still be consistent, especially when the goal is group-level analysis or tract-based comparison rather than very fine anatomical localization in a specific pediatric template space. I would suggest using the closest built-in template for now.

Best,
Frank
