Hello,
I am a beginner in using the software, trying to generate a synthetic 3D microstructure dataset.
I am having this pipeline, and I have this error.

Hello,
My name is Azza, and I am a master’s student at Carnegie Mellon University. I am currently working on research related to 3D reconstruction from 2D images under the supervision of Prof. Ismaila Dabo.

As part of my work, I am using DREAM.3D to generate a synthetic 3D microstructure. However, I have encountered an issue during the process (please find the screenshot attached) and would greatly appreciate your guidance in resolving it.

Thank you in advance for your time and support.

Best regards,Screenshot 2026-03-26 144550.png

Hi Azza,

Quick FIX: Repace ImageDataContainer with SyntheticVolumeDataContainer or vice versa.

The error says it can't find the ImageDataContainer. This is because the filter default value is ImageDataContainer. The filter that creates a data container (2) names it SyntheticVolumeDataContainer. Rename data container names consistently to fix.

Also you should look in Bookmarks: Workshop->Synthetic for some examples of synthetic microstructure.

Best,
Ezra

Hi Ezra,
Thank you very much, that's was helpful.
For some reason, I cannot rename the container, as the statistics are fixed and it is not a drop-down menu that I can choose from. However, the bookmark was really helpful, thank you! Screenshot 2026-03-27 121556.png

The field called "Synthetic Volume Data Container" under "Created Objects" is the one you would want to change to ImageDataContainer. It should be editable. This is where it will save the data structure after creation. The "Statistics" field under "Require Objects" is the input for this filter and reads the stitistics saved in StatsGeneratorDataContainer.

Hello Azza,
You can drag-and-drop from the “Data Structure” to the parameters area. Pick the SyntheticVolumeDataContainer and drag it to where the “ImageDataContainer” is at. DREAM.3D works this way.
