[4.1.1] Update a single relationship. (Without losing others.)

Is there any way via the Java APIs to update a single relationship without losing all the other relationships?
I have a content type with 14 relationships.
I just need to update one of them.
Having to retrieve and re-apply the other 13 relationships just to update one of them seems a bit silly.
In this example, I am just doing a simple “status” update.

As you can see, there’s a lot going on here. I’m hoping there’s a better/easier way?
