Hi friends,

This Friday at 7:30am Boston's Chief of Streets Jascha Franklin-Hodge will be biking from Ashmont Station to JFK/Umass in an effort to connect with constituents during the Red Line Shutdown. If anyone can show up it will be a great chance to connect directly with someone who holds a lot of power over what the streets of Dorchester look like and to share your opinions with him. Your experiences moving around Dorchester are important and City officials need to hear from you.

I am not sure if I will be able to make it, but if you plan on going please reply to this email and I'll let you know if we can meet up!

I will be out of town, unfortunately, but one issue that has ALWAYS bugged me, if you want to raise something that's plain on the route in to Boston:  they make a bike lane then leave it potholed, with heaves and debris.  The most stunning example was when they repaved the northern part of Dorchester Avenue a few years ago, from Andrew to Old Colony - the repaving ended at the bike lanes, so they remained in the same crappy shape that caused them to repave the car lanes.

That's early for me but that would be fun so you may see me.

Call me the cynic I am, but it is great to see this on the LAST weekday of the shutdown.

Great, happy to hear about some folks planning to join!  David, that's a good point, I'll try to remember to mention that rough section when we get to that section of Dot Ave.

When you get clear of Andrew Square, just have her ride 100 feet in the bike lane then 100 feet in the car lane. That say it all.

You might point out that Dot Ave from Melville Ave SOUTH to Lower Mills is wider than north of Glovers Corner where they put in bike lanes... Measured it once with Nicole... :-)

David,

I agree with you 100%. I tend to bike in the travel lane from Andrew Station to D Street because of the condition of the bike lane. And since it's not protected, I'm fearful of getting doored.
