Hi all,

I don't suppose anybody has any empty 3D printer filament reels they
don't want?

Cheers!

Alex

Does the material the spool is made from matter?

There are a couple of empty reusable reels here if you need some straight away, but we're getting more and more filament as refills so we're probably going to need a few!

I've noticed Sunlu and Bambu come on reusable reels by default.

Thanks Jackie - ah so it's all going that way. Makes sense I guess. Completely understand you'll need some then. If there are any going spare I might whizz them if that was ok :)

Hi!

I have some filament packs I got from Bambu but they came without the open-up-abble plastic reels

Hi Alex,

There is a design on Makerworld where you can print your own reels for Bambu Filament refills, it can work out cheaper than buying them direct, though it does use quite a bit of filament (163 to 225g, depending on the design).

With normal filament reels you have to rewind the filament from the refills, as normal reels don’t split to take the refill, so this can also be a bit of a waste of time. Again, there are filament winder designs you can make to make this a lot easier.

When buying filament from Bambu, I try to get a mix of refills and full reels to slowly build up my stock of empty reels. It’s also good to keep the RFID tags as you use up Bambu reels, as you can sometimes use non Bambu filament and fool the system to read it.

Hope you have fun with your new toys anyway.

All the best

Mike

I am having SO MUCH FUN. I just love the engineering quality of this stuff.

We shall have to coffee and compare notes (by which I really mean you tell me all of the cool stuff as I am a #noob :-)
