The other week at Maker Night we had a visitor who brought a guidance
system from a WWII torpedo :-D

It was Dean, who runs Western Approaches and now the U-Boat and Wirral
Transport Museums.

The U-boat museum is undergoing renovation at the moment, and they have
a bunch of things (and ideas of things) they'd like to get fixed up
and/or built to display in it; and figured that the DoES community might
be interested and a good place to find suitable enthusiastic geeks.
(They have some level of budget for things, although I don't know how much)

They also, at the Wirral Transport Museum, have a more industrial
workshop; given they need to maintain buses and trams and the like.
That's fairly lightly used at the moment, so they were also wondering
about some kind of tie-up where we could get access to it alongside
their volunteers.

It's all very early days, but we figured the best next step would be for
us to have an Epic Trip over to see round both museums. They'll bring
one of their buses over to pick us up, and bring us back later; and
we'll go for a visit.

And the first step in that would be working out what day would work.
It'll be a weekday evening.  If you're interested, head to
https://crab.fit/epic-trip-to-uboat-and-wirral-transport-museums-pick-earliest-start-time-666871
and fill in which evenings work best for you.

Once we've got a bunch of responses, I'll get in touch with Dean to let
him know what weekday is best and get a couple of possible dates from him.

Should be fun!

Adrian.

Hello!
Is this still happening and if so, when?
Just looked at the Crab poll and there were some options this week, but I couldn't see if anything had been decided on there or in email thread. But I may have missed it... both the info and the trip itself!
Let me know either way.
Much appreciated,
Take care,
Sanna xxx

Hello,

It is still happening, I'm waiting to hear back from the museum about actual date(s).  Mondays and Tuesdays seemed the most popular.  They're checking availability of their volunteers, and working out what size bus they'll need to send for us.

Snoof, I've also asked what the deal is with wheelchair access.

I'll report back here when I hear more.

Cheers,

Adrian.
