Dennis Ashby

Hi folks! Hope you all are doing well and staying healthy.

The reason I am writing to you is to let you know about our Scrabble friend, Dennis Ashby. I work with Dennis's son-in-law and he recently informed me that Dennis has been diagnosed with Melanoma (skin cancer).  It has moved to his lungs. From what his son in law has told me, Dennis has several weeks to a few months left. 

He is currently resting at a hospice at 3401 E. Douglas in Des Moines (Room 4). I visited him a week ago and he seemed in good spirits. I met his wife Carolyn. She requests that you text her before visiting to make sure it's a good time. Her number is 515-771-9820.

If I find out anything more, I will be sure to let everyone know. Thanks!

    Good to hear from you, brother.  But, sad news about Dennis Ashby.  Thank you for the info.  I AM going to see him because of you. 

     For those of you who did not have the pleasure of sitting across a Scrabble board from Dennis, know that Dennis IS, as we speak, one of the funniest, funnest, kindest, most interesting, people I have ever met.  Fault Chuck Riordan in a lot of ways… well earned.  But, do not doubt that Chuck Riordan cannot recognize a funny, fun, kind, and interesting Des Moinesian.  Chuck knows at least that. 

      Toss up a prayer, kind thought, good wish for an original member of DM Scrabble. A true original.  They do not make them like Dennis Ashby any more. Nor, would I desire that.

Hello! Not sure how well known is has become, but Dennis passed away last Tuesday night. From when I talked to his son in law yesterday, final plans haven't been finalized yet, but the funeral may end up happening sometime next weekend. As soon as I know, I will relay the info. Thanks!

   I am in Colorado for a couple weeks. I hate to not be able to pay much deserved respects.  Denny was a great man.
