First of all, i suggest you start working in django in a virtualenv. This helps as you can have your own virtual env for installing additional django modules. if you want to host and check it on the web, i suggest you checkout this page : https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/getting-started-with-django

then i suggest that you do the tutorials on django website. 

then i suggest you get a book on django and do the project in it to understand how things work. e.g. this book http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-Django-E-Commerce-Experts-Development/dp/1430225351/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1380819727&sr=1-1&keywords=django+ecommerce

then you start making your own projects.
