Any beginning tutorial that completely fails to work should be expunged or
changed. I could not browse to http://127.0.0.1:8000 because the urls.py
file is completely wrong, or because the tutorial is incorrect.

Comment:

Thank-you for the kind words. Perhaps you are not using the version of the
tutorial that matches the version of Django you are using.

Nope 1.4 version; 1.4.5 software.

I have an abundance of kind words for software documentation that helps,
instead of wastes two days of it's user's time.

1.4 was released nearly 2 years ago. If the tutorial were completely
worthless, I don't think you'd be the first to discover it.

Anyway, this ticket tracker isn't a support channel. You can find ways to
get help [https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/#getting-help here].

Interesting theory.. but that's all it is. I'm simply reporting what's
happened to me in the last two days. Version 1.4.5, as installed by yum
on Fedora 18, creates invalid default sites.

Comment (by bmispelon):

Hi,

1) The current release for the 1.4 branch is 1.4.10. If your distribution
ships 1.4.5, you should file an issue with is maintainers because that
version is not supported and has security vulnerabilities.

2) Your report is not actionable for us. You're clearly having an issue
but you're not providing us with any information as to how to reproduce
the problem which means we can't really do anything. On top of that, as
Tim mentionned, the 1.4 release was released several years ago and I
suspect many people have been able to go through the tutorial.

3) Django is a community project run by volunteers. Dismissing our work
the way you do ("totally worthless") is not the way to report a problem
you're having.

As Tim wrote in his first comment, your problem is most likely caused by
the fact that you're reading the documentation for a more recent version
of Django than the one you have installed. There is a version switcher at
the bottom right hand side of every page of the documentation that will
help you switch easily between version.

1. No prior version of any software should have un-annotated documentation
that claims the associated software it works, but does not. it literally
takes two seconds to say 'depricated' on the docs. Further, the vast
majority of the people in the world will have assorted old versions of
Linux, the manufacturers of which will distribute old versions of the
software. If I do a 'yum install' today, it's current software. If a
version is broken, TELL US ABOUT IT!

2) You are wrong. I provided you with the exact technique to reproduce
the bug; you just do not wish to fix an old version of the software.

3) I did not say that Django was 'totally worthless'. I said that a
beginner's tutorial that claims broken software works in a specific way
was worthless, and I stand by that statement. And, I WAS using and
referring to version 1.4 of the documentation, as I've stated before.

I've done software dev my whole life. This bug report is what happens
when you ignore maintaining the documentation.

You have made your point perfectly clear. We aren't interested in having
discussions where people SHOUT. If you won't admit that you missed the
paragraph of the tutorial that tells you to check that the version of
Django and of the docs match, please use another web framework and give us
a break. Thank you.
