I've been reading for a few days trying to find any information on profitable projects and have yet to come up with anything solid. At most I've seen suggestions of plant related projects, though as far as I can tell only a few places (such as the glowing tobacco creators) have had success with this, and it doesn't sound like a solo garage lab project. If anyone has any information of what others have done with garage labs on their own, I'd love to hear about it for inspiration.

So I see diybio as a mechanism for a lot of learning and a bit of fun, and partly to be free from direct commercial constraints.

As my personal experiences and skills improve, then I hope to move into biotech focused technology startups.

However, at this future point, I would consider a commercially successful diybio idea to be, really, in essence a biotech startup.

I like to characterize diybio as an "exploratory" endeavourer,  whereas commercializing the ideas into biotech as it's "exploitatory" counterpart.
