Dear all,
I am curious to know how many in this forum are working on
1. purely informatic DIY projects
2. purely wet lab DIY projects
3. some combination thereof
Because upfront investment in bioinformatics can be much lower than setting up even a modestly equipped lab, my guess would be there are more participants in category #1 than category #2.
But over the many months I've been on DIYbio, it seems most of the interactions have been amongst those of us working on wet lab ideas / projects. Unless the bioinformatics are lurkers rather than posters :)
One of the reasons I ask is for a selfish goal of trying to collaborate with bioinformatics aficionados and enthusiasts on learning from and teaching one another new tools in bioinformatics. While there are online forums such as BioStars, it's more of a Q&A forum rather than a collaborative learning platform. While Coursera is good for learning, it is not very collaborative.
I have no experience with a collaborative learning platform or forum for bioinformatics, so any suggestions are welcome, including your thoughts on whether DIYbio might be a good starting point for me and people like me.
I await your responses and learning about your own experiences.
Cheers,
Tom
