Hey Everyone,

I'm looking to buy some synthesized DNA for a project and I was wondering what was the cheapest/best company to use?

I almost exclusively buy my DNA as GeneStrings from Thermo-Fisher. $99 up to 600bp and lots of flat rate brackets competitive with IDT. Most of the fragments ship in 5 days or less and I never had issues with it. Note these are fragments, not subcloned.

Yeah, IDT gBlocks Gene Fragments  are still the cheapest: $89 for up to 500bp. Thermo-Fisher's GeneArt Strings DNA Fragments are clearly intended to compete directly with IDT's prices: $99 for up to 600bp.

If you need something longer, the cheapest price per bp from both sources is $149 for a 1Kbp fragment.

I typically use gBlocks, but they are essentially identical to GeneArt strings. The difference is is that oftentimes IDT (gBlocks) will synthesize more complex sequences than GeneArt. If your construct is too complex for GeneArt, there is a possibility that IDT will still synthesize it. Of course, I've had IDT partially fail with those synthesis reactions (crap parts, but half off, and still good enough to get clones), so it is not entirely fool-proof. As said, I've used both in the past and they are both pretty much the same except for complexity.
