I am new to DIYbio, but have an interest to impact medicine in a major way. I think one of the grandest challenges in medicine is organ transplantation and postoperative longevity. I need to start small as the last biological experiment I did was for my microbio degree 10 years ago.

Do you all have any suggestions about where I can start? The resources I should be looking in to? HOW I can get started.

If anyone shares a similar interest, please let me know. Maybe we can work together.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Heya,

What area are you looking into as far as tissue engineering?

Several groups on this list are working on DIY Bioprinting.  In Sunnyvale, California you can join us on Thursday nights on our project.  Our wiki is at: https://sites.google.com/site/bioprinterwiki/ and has many links to get you started.

Another option is what is known as "Ghost Organs", which might be difficult in a DIY setting as you generally reseed with stem cells (which would need to be cultured which can be costly in time, equipment etc).  However this is what we have done with that technology: http://www.instructables.com/id/Ghost-Heart-in-a-Jar/

Depending on where you are located, find a DIY group and look at these for starting points.  Aging projects are all across the board and lots of work with telemeres you could look into and learn about.

Hope that helps!

Hey, thanks Maria! I am located in Winnipeg, MB. As far as I know there are no groups of this kind in my area, so I was hoping to set up a lab myself.  I appreciate the other links you gave me.
