Z-competent cells

Does anyone have a guess at the technology behind Zymo Research's Z-competent cells? (It's proprietary)
They do not require heat shock and are super easy to make. Probably the easiest plasmid transformation procedure I have ever used.

I'm told it's Tom Knight's "Second Favourite" method. Nobody told me
what his favourite method is. I assume it's just glaring at recalcitrant
cells until they transform themselves.
