Citrus greening is a climate related problem in Hawaii, not caused by a bacterium, so I found this article amusing in how poorly researched and myopic in scope it was. To me, it sounded like right-wing groups harping about how gay marriage is a sure sign of the apocalypse.
Verticillium is a problem for California avocado growers, but although the particular strain of the disease is present in Hawaii, it isn't as significant.
My point being, causal organisms in one area may not be as virulent in other locales.
I find this hard to believe that a rootstock somewhere in China isn't easier and less costly to implement for disease control.
Any further interdisciplinary analysis may want to research "red queen theory" and selection against pathogens that kill their host.
