Hi! I'm a beginner biohacker from Moscow, Russia. Me and my mates want to organize biolaboratory, we have bougth centrifuges, used pcr-machine and other stuff on Ebay, bacterial media and biology reagents from local suppliers, but we have problems with bacteria strains and plasmids - scientists from institutes don't want to help us, companies like Carolina.com ship plasmids in water solution, and they are inactive after delivery. Can you help us, and sent clean E. coli strains (for plasmid cloning and protein expression) and bacteries with fluorescent proteins plasmides (GFP, YFP, RFP, CFP etc. pGLO from Bio-rad would be great) in an envelope on filter paper?  I'm willing to cover all the costs.

Hello,

maybe you can start by isolate some E.Coli strain in natural environment.  A majority of E.Coli will be good enough to accept a plasmid.
For GFP strain, it will be more difficult ;-)

Good luck

This is usually frowned upon, simply because you need to ensure that it isn't pathogenic.

In my experience there are a lot of sources that sell 'lyophilized' whatever (cells, DNA, chemicals).

Check out http://the-odin.com
I will ship strains on filter paper internationally.

Thanks,
