Wow, three narrow things. One must be right. I'll vote for 4 and 7.

The narrow passages all seem to be inspired by through, which, unlike other players, I find unconvincing.  I know nothing about baseball, but I do think that a real dictionary definition would not so obviously lack a relative conjunction. 

I vote for the verb, because I can think of a Germanic verb stem it might be cognate with. That is #1, and double that for the highly implausible #2.
