First I have to confess a dealer induced glitch. Tim Lodge’s def was omitted from the list. This was due to the dealer negligently failing to check his junk mail folder which is where Tim’s definition message ended up. Therefore 2 dealer points are awarded.
There was also some Cory induced strangeness in the voting. For some strange reason, the voting messages of Lodge, Shefler, Naylor, Widdis, JohnnyB, Cunningham, and Shepherdson were read by Cory as coming from dixo...@googlegroups.com. I can only surmise that something involving the new group forwarding confused Cory’s parsing of the ‘from’ field in the messages. I believe that I was able to assign the votes to the proper players. So please call any oddities you notice to my or Mike Shefler’s attention so that they can be corrected. So on with the show ….
In round 3003, 2 players earned top spot with 4 points: they were Tony Abell and Judy Madnick. Judy Madnick's definition "In an excited or tumultuous state." earned its author the deal, and Tony Abell can heave a sigh of relief that "A red onion." did not earn one more vote.
There were 4 players in runner-up position with 3 points each: Dave Cunningham, John Barrs, Mike Shefler and Daniel Widdis.
The true definition was 3: "_Archaic_ Confusion; uproar." (AHD 5th), which 5 perceptive players guessed.
1. A hook designed to be applied every six inches to hold
a marble slab in place on a wall until the thinset adheres
to the backerboard. No votes
Submitted by: Shepherdson.
2. A red onion. Votes from: Debbie, Madnick, Naylor and Shepherdson
Submitted by: Abell, who scores natural 4.
3. _Archaic_ Confusion; uproar. Votes from: Cunningham, dixonary, JohnB, Shefler and
Widdis Real definition from AHD 5th
4. (Embryology) A two-walled cuplike depression that
developsinto the pigmented and sensory layers of the retina. Vote from: Lodge
Submitted by: Widdis, who scores 1 + 2, total 3.
5. A curved step on a staircase. Votes from: Debbie and Lodge
Submitted by: Naylor, who scores natural 2.
6. Oil from the American garpike used to soften leather. Vote from: Mallach
Submitted by: JohnB, who scores 1 + 2, total 3.
7. A type of vegetable oil made from various types of
beans. Vote from: Mallach
Submitted by: Cunningham, who scores 1 + 2, total 3.

of a cantilevered, upper story terrace. Vote from: Madnick

10. A whirlpool that forms periodically in the strait of
Corryvreckan between the islands of Jura and Scarba off the
west coast of Scotland. Vote from: Widdis
Submitted by: Shefler, who scores 1 + 2, total 3.
11. To cook by enclosing in a plastic pouch and submersing
in a boiling water bath. This differs from the sous-vide
method in that sous-vide uses vacuum-sealed containers and
lower temperatures over longer periods of time, whereas
garboiling does not require a vacuum, but uses boiling
water exclusively. From GARBAGE [bag] + BOIL. No votes
Submitted by: McGill.
12. Waste metal attached to a casting. Vote from: Shepherdson
Submitted by: Mallach, who scores natural 1.
13. In an excited or tumultuous state. Votes from: Cunningham, dixonary, JohnB and Shefler

Argh! There was a 5th ‘ghost’ player whose name was Dixonary listed in the scoring table. I deleted the line from scoring but failed to adjust the total votes. The ghost voted for 3 and 13 so those defs have an extra vote. The problem arose because of the parsing problem in the voting messages. The original player list had 13 players including ‘dixonary’ while there were really only 12.

This is the dealer’s punishment for dealing a word that means “confusion”. 😉
