Here we have 11 imaginative defs of the word ZARCOLE, only one of which comes from my dictionary.  Please vote for your two favoutites by public reply to this message before the slightly extended deadline, which is:

 3.           a large roundhead cabbage [also CZARCOLE].

 6.           a plant that thrives in soil rich in lime.

 7.           [Ital.] the central plaza of a city or town.

 8.           a blue semi-precious stone of volcanic origin.

 9.           a swear jar; initially added to the Jargon File 18th Nov 1993.

10.          a high cylindrical head-dress such as was worn by janizaries.

11.          a brittle mineral which generally appears as colorless, or pale blue with a vitreous to pearly luster.

My choices today are these "blues":
 
8.           a blue semi-precious stone of volcanic origin.

11.          a brittle mineral which generally appears as colorless, or pale blue with a vitreous to pearly luster.

I've never heard of a janizary, so I'll throw a vote their way, plus the rift:
