Fellow players,

Eleven definitions of ENS follow. They have been edited for format consistency and U.S. usage, and are in ascending order by character count. Please vote for two by Reply to this message before the deadline, about 48 hours from now. If you realize on seeing this list that you know what ENS means, then instead of voting publicly, please let me know by private email to emal...@verizon.net.

1. acronym for "enough said."

2. [Scot.] wily; sly; artful; cunning.

3. foul matter, esp. that secreted in the eye.

4. a feeling of lightheartedness or frivolity.

5. butter made from yak milk, also known as su oil.

6. the lengthy middle toe of the extinct Mylodon sloth.

7. [Philos.] an entity or being; an existing thing, as opposed to a quality or attribute.

8. an essential oil extracted from berries by either steam distillation or using supercritical carbon dioxide.

9. [Philos.] The essential essence of a thing. Similar to the id in a conscious being, this applies to things that cannot have a personality.

10. the reach and positiveness with which a person can remember; the strength and trustworthiness of one's power to reach and represent or to recall the past.

11. a small duchy in Central Europe, part of the Holy Roman Empire, and subject to the Electorate (later Kingdom) of Saxony after the Peace of Westphalia. Today part of the Czech Republic.

Votes are due 5 pm Monday in North American Eastern Standard Time. According to timeanddate.com, that's also:

and other times in other places. However, I'm going away for a few days. I expect to spend that afternoon at the Mass. Museum of Contemporary Art. It closes at 5. I now plan to return directly to my Airbnb, a short walk from the museum. Plans change, though. I might not return until later. So, if the voting deadline passes, you haven't voted yet, but you haven't seen the results yet either, go ahead and vote anyhow. I'll accept all votes that come in until I finish compiling the results.

New players are welcome to vote, as are old friends who didn't submit a definition. The only requirement is that you not know what ENS means. Full rules can be found at http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules

Vote on!

I'll  go for the philosophical things, 7 and 9.

          7. [Philos.] an entity or being; an existing thing, as opposed to a quality or attribute.

          9. [Philos.] The essential essence of a thing. Similar to the id in a conscious being, this applies to things that cannot have a personality.

Copying Tim’s vote for 7 and 9 under the theory that they could have potentially combined and one of them may be true.

Or not.

As usual, I don't even believe my definition, let alone anyone else's.

I'll go with these for no good reason at all:

7. [Philos.] an entity or being; an existing thing, as opposed to a quality or attribute.

I'll ignore the philosophical ones and go with the frivolity & positiveness - 4 & 10.

4. a feeling of lightheartedness or frivolity.

10. the reach and positiveness with which a person can remember; the strength and trustworthiness of one's power to reach and represent or to recall the past.

It looks like 7 and 9 should have been combined, so them's got my votes.

Trying to remember to be lighthearted, I'll choose 4 and 10:
