Folks,

Fourteen definitions of EPHOR  follow. One is correct, but which? The rest are your concoctions. They have been edited slightly for format consistency and are in ascending order of character count, which might not correspond to visual length in your email display font.

Please vote for two that you like for any reason by Reply to this message before the deadline that follows the list. If you realize now that you know what EPHOR means, let me know me by private email to emal...@verizon.net. Don't trust your email program to auto-fill my address correctly from my name; that may send your message to the group. (As you may have read in some other recent group correspondence, I hope to take care of this problem after this deal is over, but I don't want to change anything in mid-deal.) Just make sure your message shows my personal address in its To field.

Anyhow, the defs:

1. an oil lamp.

2. a glow (see _aura_).

3. [OE] to be fit for purpose.

4. [Gk] black bile, in humorism.

5. one with a loud or piercing voice.

6. inaccessible and sparsely populated.

7. in ancient Greece, a temple guardian.

8. gas released during volcanic eruptions.

9. One of the five magistrates of ancient Sparta.

10. a watery, acrid discharge from a wound or ulcer.

11. a holy oil used in Coptic Christian burial services.

12. a tincture of alcohol and opium, used as a nerve and muscle tonic in Victorian times.

13. in the now superseded seventeenth-century phlogiston theory, the substance that remained after the process of burning.

14. artifact and object to be revered in ancient Israelite culture; closely connected with oracular practices and priestly ritual.

Votes are due a bit under two days from now: Monday, Jan. 13, at 9 am US EST. According to timeanddate.com, that is:

and other times in other places. Please check any time conversion that applies to you. That site is good, but nobody's perfect.

New players are welcome to vote, as are old friends who happened not to submit a definition this time. The only requirement is that you not know what the word means. Full rules at http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules .

Vote on!

~Bending under the weight of His mercies~

The God Who created everything there is, is also rich in mercy and love towards us.  But man’s sinfulness has separated us from God.Sin is missing the mark of being 100% holy as God is holy—His will for us.  God demonstrated His love by becoming like us, only perfectly, living, walking, teaching, healing, among us, and then dying publicly and finally rising from the dead 3 days later. This sacrificial death PAID for our sins and CREDITS us with His righteousness when we believe in Him and what He did. By 100% relying on Messiah’s work and not our own good deeds, He saves us and gives us eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the Gift of God is eternal life through Jesus  the Lord.Would you accept this Jesus into your life and His forgiveness of your sin?

I will go for #9 (but I don't know which one of them) and #12 (maybe to demonstrate the source of my confusion)

In the continuing saga of Efrem’s email oddness, I didn’t get the call for votes!

Thankfully Debbie quoted it so I can register a 10 - 4, good buddy.

Dan,

Wonder why that happened, if Debbie (plus at least Judy M. and John B., both of whom have voted) did?

Maybe you could re-send it to the group just in case someone else is definition list-impaired. I could re-send it mysef, but that probably wouldn't change anything from the first time.

It's very hard to choose between these excellent defs, but I'll fall for 9 and 10.

 9. One of the five magistrates of ancient Sparta

10. a watery, acrid discharge from a wound or ulcer.
