All – Here are 15 definitions of the word dimber. One comes from a dictionary, and the others from folks’ fertile imaginations. That does not mean that they’re wrong, of course, but perhaps not correct.

  1. The allowance made in the dimensions of a machine component such as a turbine blade in a jet engine to compensate for expansion at operating temperatures.

  1. A thimble

  1. [Royal Navy slang] an incompetent deck officer.

  1. A large, loosely-knitted scarf

  1. [Obs.] a mediaeval term for an effeminate man [often combined with 'damber' as "a dimber-damber cantor" Chaucer The Summoner's Tale]

  1. Of or relating to amoral or conniving political principles.

  1. A guide rail on a mountain trail.

  2. Archaic To bother; distress.

  1. Pretty; as in a dimber cove, a pretty fellow.

  1. A small hollow metal cone on the end of a handle, used to extinguish a candle by smothering the flame.

  1. A streak of white on a horse's face. dialect.

  1. A soft leather pad placed inside a shoe to ease the pressure on a tender spot.

  1. A welding clamp.

  1. A small deer of the Asiatic forest

  1. To follow a winding or circuitous path.

Please let me have your votes by no later than 9AM Eastern Daylight Time Thursday June 11.

Best,

Alan

Be careful if you vote as I do by copying and pasting the definitions I like and/or first deleting the definitions I don't like. The definition numbers may change depending on how you handle this. Automatic numbering does this.

Starting over so the numbers are back in place:

8 and 15 for me today.
