Folks,

n=?? definitions of CAGG  follow. One is, hard as this may be to believe, correct. The rest are products of your devious minds. They have been edited slightly for format consistency and are in ascending order by character count. That might not correspond to visual length in your email display font.

Please vote for two by Reply to this message before the deadline that follows the list. If you realize on seeing the definitions that you know what CAGG means, let me know by private email to emal...@verizon.net

1. gorse; furze.

2. abbr. for Cagoule

3. an unnecessary part.

4. to mistreat or intimidate.

5. [Naut.] a short turn in a rope.

6. a thick piece or a large amount of something.

7. a solemn vow or resolution not to drink alcohol for a certain time.

8. the calicification that forms around a deep sea sulfurous hot spring.

9. [Slang] a difficult or troubled situation, esp. in the phrase _to be in the cagg_.

10. a frame or barrow on which falcons were carried to the hunt [MDu cage 'coop', 'hutch'].

11. a kind of large jar, principally used for grain storage, from the pueblos of New Mexico.

12. a clinker-built sailing vessel used in the British Isles in the 12th and 13th centuries.

13. [orig. from Gaelic] Irish slang, a cheapskate, a cheat, someone who fails to pay their debts.

14. a vessel fitted out to supply ardent spirits, etc. usually in exchange for fish, to the deep-sea fishers in the North Sea; a floating grog-shop.

Votes are due about 36 hours from now. I'll go by the top row of the following table. The others are conversions by timeanddate.com.

and other times in other places. Please check any time conversion that matters to you. That site's good, but nobody's perfect.

New players are welcome to vote, as are old friends who didn't submit a definition. The only requirement is that you not know what the word means. Full rules at http://www.dixonary.net/game-rules-and-advice/rules .

Vote away!

13 because it’s great and I almost thought I submitted it until I found my real, less awesome def elsewhere.

And 11 for “a kind of” in a rather unlikely location.

I'll go for the rather vague 3 and 6.
