If  you know what SIALID means, please let me know ASAP the same way. If enough people know it, I'll pick another word - hopefully in time to keep the same deadline.

The letters "NAD" under this "definition," which I put in bold green text below, stand for Not A Definition. Generally, NADs are attempts at humor, in this case making a pun on SIALID and the erectile dysfunction medication Cialis.

Ryan also sent me a real fake definition, privately. It will be in the list I send out Sunday morning. No hints about it here, though!

I should have added that inadvertently sending a definition publicly is not unheard of, even though this wasn't an instance of that. We've all done it, most of us more than once!

I reply to posts exclusively via the Google Groups message board. My brain has problems parsing the conversation structure that emerges via email, despite using gmail. The threading on the board helps.

I only use email to send definitions and to receive definitions when dealing. The upside of this is that I never accidentally post a public message.

The downside is that I occasionally miss personal messages that branch off of a thread. And I sometimes have trouble figuring out which email to send definitions to. And I almost never think to sign my post replies.

But that's just me.

Oh, also: welcome. I think most of our newest players (since me, at least) have found us via Wikipedia. I did. The rest have known someone who already plays.

I've always thought NAD stood for 'Not A Dixon', where a Dixon was the error of posting a fake def in public.  It was named after our esteemed colleague Steve, who - I'm told - made a habit of it at one time.

For Joseph's benefit, there's also a tradition of awarding the Dixonary crown to anyone who commits a Dixon.  I've got several crowns in my trophy cabinet, so now I've adopted the method of play that Ryan described, sending defs to the dealer by direct email.
