14 is the number of Super Bowl touchdown passes between Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski.  14 is also the number of definitions available for you to choose from for KRIMMER, only one of which is true.

You know the drill… vote for two before the deadline, 36 hours from now at 10:30 am PST Tuesday February 9. That’s 1:30pm EST, 6:30pm GMT/UTC in the UK, 7:30pm CET in the Netherlands, and Wednesday at 5:30am AEDT in Melbourne, and 7:30am NZDT in Wellington.

*** KRIMMER ***

1. a gray fur hat with ear-flaps introduced to England by soldiers returning from the Crimean War

2. Tightly curled gray or black fur made from the wool of young Crimean lambs.

3. A method for hair straightening using hot combs and emollient creams.

4. a flat, heavy shovel used by road crews to fill potholes.

5. (Ger.) A spread made from bacon lard.

6. a promiscuous woman.

7. a yoke for oxen.

8. An ice scraper.

9. A maker of pipes.

10. An industrial packaging machine.

11. [Often spelled with a single "M"] Hoarfrost

12. An accomplice who distracts the intended victim of a pickpocket.

13. (from Ger.) a vainglorious person, a boaster; (Yiddish) a know-it-all.

14. [Swiss German]  an error, “spilt milk” (from Fr. “creme mer”, a sea of cream)

Though an 8 would be useful in this weather, my votes go to 5 and 13, please.

Best wishes,
Tim Bourne.

the first two are somewhat similar - I will go for #2 as being more general and reward #14 for the etymology

1 and 2 because it's gray outside and likely to stay that way until spring.

Judy, I didn't know you were from Albany. There's an Albany not far from my home town, as well. Have you ever had one of Albany's famous steamed hams?

Is that Aul-BAYNEY, as distinct from AWL-bany?

If you're going to have a discussion like this, I think you guys ought to learn at least the elements of IPA.

Then the rest of us might understand what all these weird spellings are supposed to sound like.

From what I know, hops are one of the key elements of IPA.

I can buy two very pleasing locally-brewed beers that call themselves Basque IPA (in French) and American IPA (in English). So I suppose the imperial origins of the term are long forgotten. Just as the teachers of my childhood who insisted on the literary word eraser in preference to rubber had forgotten that the word for the sticky  substance derived from the thing ("that which rubs") and not, as they thought, the other way around.

The steamed hams are purported to be from Albany, NY. Though tales of their existence are spurious at best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8q5ORRjI_s

The Albany near me is in Oregon.

The aul-BAYNEY one (with apologies to IPA mavens/drinkers) is in Georgia.
