These are great definitions, but I have no idea which one is "real" (other than knowing that mine isn't!!!).

I'll vote for these, having narrowed my choices down to five <G>:

5.  a hole in the floor of a Pueblo Indian kiva symbolizing the place where the mythical tribal ancestors first emerged from the primordial underworld regions into the earthly realm.

9.  A race of usually malevolent beings in Hindu mythology.

Only 2 left to vote, besides me. My general rule when I don't know what to do, is to follow vox pop. Then, if one is egregiously wrong, one can still take comfort in being in good company. A principle otherwise known as Great minds think alike, and—, well, never mind that.

Vox pop says it isn’t #4 or #8. Vox pop is divided over what it is, though. It says it might be #1, #5, #7, #9, or #12. But I think #1 and #12 are very unlikely; maybe that’s why they are in gondola-end position. #7 is a botanical definition, and Johnny didn’t vote for it, so it’s probably fake. That leaves me with #5 and #9. And sipapu doesn’t look much like Sanskrit to me, so #9 is probably a real definition of a different word;  but I’ll vote for it anyway.

So, #5 and #9.

And a happy New Year to all.
