Interesting that it is an unidentified substance - anything from ground rock (talc) via ground shells (Roman to medieval) to early stages of cyanide poisoning or maybe a heart-attack caused by something like electricity = I suppose it depends on the effect that you are trying to achieve

The reason I voted for "an unidentified substance for making the face less red" was that it reminded me of someone with a very orange face, and I was thinking that he should try using "ginimony." LOL!
