I just realized during scoring that I may have let an appearance on the forum of my interest in things Scottish correspond to a Scottish word chosen by me. The mishanter of the unnumbered definition makes the winner ambiguous to me. If Mike Shefler intended to vote for him, the winner is Ryan McGill. If not, it is Tim Lodge. JohnnyB was DQ.

SHANI NAYLOR 1. A breach, opening, or gap in a wall, fence, hedge, etc.
1 vote Voted for by (VFB): D. Widdis

Ben, I think you'll find Scots and Gaelic definitions get rather a lot of traction here.

As Shefler is the scorekeeper, it's easy to wait for feedback before assuming the deal. I'll keep an eye on my email and do some word-searching just in case, but I can't guarantee a post before the morning if Mike did mean to choose my definition (which seems unlikely, given its positioning).

When I voted, I thought it was all one def, so I can't say I voted for the
first part of the second part. Make of that what you will. I leave it up to
the discretion of the dealer.(so the way I would have done it were I the
dealer is to give one vote to 3 and one to 3a.)

I will do as Mike would have done and give Embler and McGill each 1 point for that one vote of his, making them have 2 and 5 respectively. Johnny Barrs is right to point out that Cunningham deserves no asterisk. Ryan McGill is the next dealer.

Ben,

What method did you use for your scorekeeping? It's quite striking. And what is a "Silver Tallie"? Does it have something to do with Nate Silver?

Ryan McGill,

Sorry for the late 9d compliance (see your inbox if you are confused).

I suppose I took a few shortcuts with my posted scoring compared with previous dealers, but it seems to comply with the rules.

I copy and pasted the definitions to a word processor, prefixed the author to the definition, then went through the voting post and marked the voters under the definition and counted those up. Having left-justified the number of votes per def made it easier to see. I made sure to write down names of those who voted but had no definition, so that I would not forget to include their score. I made the final tally by adding votes received and votes.

Good guess with the Silver Tallie, but I was referencing a Scottish song called "The Silver Tassie" (by Burns methinks). At first I thought of heading it with "Tally". I was going to make that clear with the **, but I forgot to follow it up with an explanation.
